As Michelangelo said, "God is in the details." Truly, Doug Gilford is doing the blessed work of the righteous.

Then again, Basil Wolverton's New York Times obituary called him "The Michelangelo of MAD Magazine." So in this case, God's details might be warts, nostril hair and open sores.

This is an awesome catch.

Plus, MAD is even better when read backwards. The Spies always survive, and Al Jaffee's Fold-Outs return the copy to mint condition.

These are real curiosities, simultaneously released in 2005 (not sure how simultaneously).
Giveaways at comedy clubs and comic-cons to promote the magazine.

Contents were similar but different as you can see:

Might as well give these a go for the covers alone!

If, and i do mean if, a place existed for a comprehensive listing of Mad Books, what would it contain?

http://www.madcoversite.com/madbooks.html

In other words, what would I be getting myself into?

Turns out I'm not going to get myself into any book contents listing.
Very content to live with a simple list of the book titles on the above mentioned page.
I've hit the wall...

I doubt that any of us here on MAD Mumblings are going to gripe about your site's "MAD Big Books" section (for lack of a better descriptor) merely listing all the books in alphabetical order and providing links to their Amazon pages or similar spots around the Web. *I* certainly won't complain!

In addition to all of that work, I really like that the cover of each book pops up as a separate image when I merely float the cursor over a book title.

Well done, Doug! Thank you again for all your hard MAD work!!!

Thanks. Not so much an alphabetical or chronological listing though, but a mishmash of like-titles grouped together in no particular order, subject to change...

A while back, Dave Williams suggested this obscure Trick-or-Treat Reading pack from 1987 for the Miscellanea section, and I said I didn't want to break open my pack.
So there it sat, mocking me. How would I know the contents of those little books otherwise?

So I gently pried open the little Hong Kong staples, releasing the orange cardboard banner from the plastic packaging, all in hopes of reassembling it once I'd done my research.
The damage was done, though. It turns out re-fitting the staples through all the proper holes is about impossible.
Thanks Dave!

I'm delighted to see the contents listed for those Hallowe'en giveaways as I was given a package of them at the end of my September visit to the MAD offices in September and, ever since then, my wife and I have been on the fence as to whether to open them.

And now we don't have to, because Doug did the dirty work for us! Now they can remain a "pristine collector's item"! Thanks Doug!!!
